World Releases Trailer for Super CJ

Just Like Me World Releases Trailer for Super CJ, the first animated series featuring a black boy superhero created by a black-owned media company.
Trailer exceeded 145,000 views on YouTube and other social media in the first 14 days of release!

Today, Just Like Me World, a media company that creates books, half-hour cartoons, and animated movies featuring characters of color, released the trailer for Super CJ.  The animated series features the first black boy superhero created and owned by an African American media company. Already, the trailer that was released a few weeks ago, has exceeded 145,000 views on YouTube and other social media in its first fourteen days of release!

“When we saw the overwhelming success of the Black Panther movies, we realized that Super CJ had very similar admirable characteristics like T’Challa’s character,” says Yaba Baker, Founder and President of Just Like Me World and author of the book, Super CJ. “What’s different about CJ and sets him apart from a small field of black boy wonders of the past, is that his success fighting villains is amplified when he makes the conscious yet difficult decision to control his anger.”

And fans are responding to that difference. In addition to the more than 131,800 views on the newly released trailer, another promotional video garnered 75k views on YouTube, and an additional 14,000 views across social media, Baker credits some of that success to a great story and an experienced production team. Baker is co-writer of the pilot episode with Lee House who is also a full-time writer for Nickelodeon Animation and the head script writer for Adult Swim’s show Alabama Jackson. Jermaine Hargrove, head of Small Town Animation, created animation for the trailer. Kris Wimberly, a consultant and a potential showrunner for Super CJ, also directed 15 episodes of the Disney Jr. show, Firebuds

Super CJ’s following is already global and growing, with an audience in 86 different countries. However, the Super CJ book and accompanying script not only create an opportunity for young people to experience representation through a young black superhero, but helps them learn to manage their emotions. “In this charming graphic novel for ages 6 to 12, Baker deftly delivers the overarching message—that anger fuels poor choices—without sounding preachy, a balance that children will appreciate,” according to Publishers Weekly. “The snappy dialogue will tickle the funny bones of both adults and kids, especially the chatter between boy and dog [Super CJ and his superhero dog Rex].” “In addition to rarely seeing black boys in the role of the superhero on TV, we have rarely seen any superhero whose success depends on controlling one of the most threatening emotions to the overall human psyche, anger,” Baker says. “Yet we have seen from recent successes like the Black Panther movies that not only does representation matter to African Americans, but that all audiences value and support heroes of various ethnicities.” While African American adults are clamoring to see images of themselves on screen with superhero ideals, children actually need those images to help them stretch their self-identities.” Baker is so passionate about this story and representation for minority children as a whole that he and his team raised the money to create the pilot episode and is currently in the process of pitching Super CJ to entertainment entities to get 10 episodes of the show licensed. “Can you imagine the magnitude of young men and women learning applicable anger management skills through this animated show while seeing an animated character their age that looks like them? Rarely has a black boy appeared in superhero form on television or in film,” Baker says. “I can remember two – Dion from the current show ‘Raising Dion,’ and a character named Static Shock, an animated superhero from 20 years ago.” “So we are doing everything we can to create opportunities for representation to occur in superhero form on TV, including investing our own time, talent and treasure.” To get the latest information on new Super CJ trailers, release of the pilot episode, and contests to win prizes text SCJ to (771) 203-1206 and subscribe to their channel at https://www.youtube.com/c/JustLikeMeTV.  For more information or for media inquiries please send an email to hello@bigmediaagency.com.
